Cedar Creek
| Monitored By | Anoka Conservation District |
Notes: This is a large creek that originates in Isanti County, flowing through the Cedar Creek Natural History Area and outleting to the Rum River in northwest Andover. The watershed is rural residential with 5 acre lots. The creek is about 30 feet wide and 3 feet deep at the monitoring site during baseflow. Due to its large, sparsely developed watershed Cedar Creek responds to precipitation by slowly rising and falling. It is not “flashy.” Based on rudimentary analysis of five relatively large (>0.6 in), isolated rain events during 2004 and 2005, creek water levels rose an average of 0.69 ft for each inch of rainfall. It took at least 16 hours for the creek to rise to its peak after each storm. The largest storm of 5.4 inches on October 4, 2005 caused water levels to rise 2.82 ft before peaking after about 88 hours. |
