Anoka Rivers & Streams
Anoka County has several major waterways, a number of smaller streams, and a multitude of ditches. The Mississippi River borders the county on the southwest. The Rum River, a state scenic and recreational river located throughout most of Anoka County, runs from north to south through the western part of the county. Larger streams, such as Cedar Creek, are the infrastructure of many wildlife corridor and greenways planning efforts locally. There are also man-made ditches throughout the county which were originally dug for agricultural drainage, but increasingly serve as storm water conveyance systems for an expanding suburbia.
In this portion of the website, you can obtain information about water chemistry, biological monitoring, and hydrology of many of these rivers, streams and ditches. Narrative summaries of the most recently collected data are available through the Rivers and Streams Directory links. Graphs of the data or download raw data, may be viewed by using the Data Access Tool. Most of this data is collected through coordinated efforts of the Anoka Conservation District, Watershed Management Organizations, and Watershed Districts.
