| Background: Ford Brook originates from Goose Lake in north-cental Burns Township. It's watershed includes the majority of Burns Township. The watershed is rural, with scattered large-lot residences. This monitoring site is at the bottom of the watershed, shortly before Ford joins with Trott Brook. The stream carries moderate water volumes, with typical flows ranging from 7-25 cfs, and large stormflows even greater. All of Ford Brook is on the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's 303(d) list for impaired biota. | |

| Results: This stream has elevated conductivity and chlorides. The source or type of pollutant is unknown as these parameters can indicate a number of pollutant types including waste from streamside horse yards, certain fertilizers, road salts, chemicals from road runoff, failing septic systems, agricultural sources, and other chemical sources. Phosphorus is also slightly above the county-wide median. Currently, the stream does not regularly exceed tolerances of aquatic life, but may do so periodically. This stream should be a medium-level priority for an in-depth study to determine pollutant sources and solutions. | |
