Monitored By ACD Staff
Years Monitored 1998 – 4 samples at Fawn Lake Dr and Highway 9
2006 – all three sites, 8 samples each
Background: In 2006 three sites on this stream were monitored simultaneously to assess the overall condition of the stream and differences from upstream to downstream. The watershed changes from upstream to downstream. The headwaters of this stream are within the University of Minnesota’s Cedar Creek Natural History Area, which is largely in pre-European settlement condition. Downstream areas are rural residential but increasingly suburban fringe, and forecasted for significant growth and development. This growth may include a wastewater treatment plant in the City of East Bethel, which would presumably discharge to Cedar Creek or its tributaries.
Cedar Creek is a major waterway, with a watershed of over 30,000 acres. The creek is about 30 feet wide and 3 feet deep during baseflow near its outlet to the Rum River.

Results and Discussion
Eight water quality samples were taken at each site, including four during storms and four during baseflow. On each sampling date, samples were taken virtually simultaneously (within 1. 5 hrs) at all the sites. Overall, water quality was good. The only significant change in water quality from upstream to downstream was an increase in dissolved pollutants, as measured by conductivity and chlorides.
