Groundwater

Groundwater is of concern to Anoka County residents for drinking water quality and maintaining supply for a growing population. Geologically, we are situated in sandy outwash plain called the Anoka Sand Plain, where our groundwater is generally quite susceptible to pollutants. Once groundwater is polluted, it is very difficult to clean up. Likewise, incredible quantities of groundwater are pumped every day for drinking, irrigation, manufacturing, and other uses, and this quantity continues to grow. Sustaining and growing our communities is strongly dependent on good management of our water quality and quantity. In this section of the website, you can learn about efforts in Anoka County to manage these aspects of groundwater.
