Through a cost share grant from the SRWMO, a private landowner on Coon Lake has installed a buffer of native vegetation along their shoreline. This project, installed in 2006, will filter runoff before it reaches the lake and provide multiple benefits to fish and wildlife. Just after installation fish were already frequenting the area.
The Anoka Conservation District coordinated this project. The landowner did the installation work and provided partial funding. The SRWMO provided cost share.
Note: all projects below the ordinary high water mark of public waters require a permit from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Other landowners interested in doing similar projects should contact the Anoka Conservation District, which administers the SRWMO cost share grants.
