Monitoring

The SCWMO has a cooperative agreement with the Anoka Conservation District each year to conduct water resources monitoring. This monitoring is aimed at tracking the conditions in lakes and streams, detecting problems before they become severe, and diagnosing the cause of any problems so the most effective corrective measures can be put in place. Generally, even when there are no problems, the monitoring data helps us better understand each of our water ecosystems so that we can manage them properly.

The monitoring tasks have included:

Detailed descriptions of the methodologies used for each type of monitoring can be found on the Anoka Conservation District's website (www.anokaswcd.org). We hire that agency to carry out the monitoring tasks.

Excerpts for recent Anoka Counservation District Annual Water Reports that include SCWMO monitoring and other projects:

  1. Mapping Tool - Once in the mapping tool, check "monitor sites" to see all locations where monitoring has been done.
  2. Database Access -This tool allows you to interactively pick a type of monitoring, monitoring site(s), and years you want to view, and then it graphs the data for you. You can also use the tool to download the raw data (for advanced users).
  3. ANR.com - This is the AnokaNaturalResources.com website, a central repository for most water monitoring data from throughout the county. Go to the "Water" portion of the site to get narrative summaries of monitoring data. The summaries explain the results from the most recent year's data, and provide a discussion of any trends seen across all years. ANR.com also is a library of other natural resources information that you might find interesting.
