Greenways Planning
Centerville & Lino Lakes
In 2001, the Anoka Conservation District (ACD) received a grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) Metro Greenways Initiative to conduct greenways planning in the Cities of Lino Lakes and Centerville in southeastern Anoka County. This area was selected for a land cover inventory and planning for several reasons. With the Greenways Planning Grant there is a complete inventory for the entire cities of Centerville and Lino Lakes. This makes city wide planning much more effective. These cities have also expressed a strong desire to incorporate natural resources into planning.
The greenways planning grant intended to produce a land cover inventory using MN DNR standards of the entire cities of Centerville and Lino Lakes. The inventory identified critical parcels containing high quality natural resources. The project also provided natural resource education to landowners and public officials. The ACD was able to work with city staff and officials to discuss alternative developments that protect community significant natural resources. The project raised community leaders' awareness of alternative planning tools that protect open space.
