Prairie Management:

Prairie Restoration

Prairie restoration is the enhancement of a remnant or degraded prairie (this term is often used to mean prairie reconstruction as well). Restoration often presents a different set of challenges than reconstruction. If it is determined that the remnant prairie contains native vegetation worth saving, it must be kept intact while exotic and invasive plants are removed. This can be done through carefully timed prescribed burning or a mowing regime. Sometimes additional seed or seedlings are planted to supplement the existing native plants.
