Cost share available
The LRRWMO offers assistance to private individuals or groups for projects that will have public benefits to water resources. Currently, a cost share grant program is available. Projects eligible to receive a grant through this cost share program include:
- Lakeshore erosion control
- Streambank erosion control
- Restoring shoreline to a natural condition with native plants
- Rain Gardens
- Other similar projects as specifically approved
The cost share grants can cover up to 75% of the cost of the project, with the landowner contributing the additional 25% needed to complete the project, either by cash, in-kind contributions, or another funding source. Funds are limited.
Expenses eligible for lakeshore or stream bank projects include materials and preparation of a plan/design. Ineligible expenses include any materials that are purely aesthetic in nature or otherwise are not directed at controlling erosion or restoring the shoreline. These funds may not be used for "hard" engineering techniques such as rip rap or retaining walls, unless deemed necessary to the success of the project by the program administrator (Anoka Conservation District). "Hard" techniques are not favored because they do not provide the shoreline-building, fish habitat, or water quality benefits afforded by "softer" techniques.
The cost share grant program is administered by the Anoka Conservation District (ACD), and all inquiries should be directed to them. Additional guidelines and rules not outlined on this webpage do exist. This grant program is continuously open for applications, but funds are limited and on a first-come-first-served basis.
