PAGODA DOGWOOD
(Cornus alternifolia)

Pagoda dogwood is a large shrub whose dark green foliage, showy aromatic spring flowers and unique horizontally layered branches make it very handsome. It is moderately fast growing, is tolerant of shade but intolerant of drought. Pagoda dogwood grows best in loam soils.

Wildlife Food & Cover:Excellent food - nectar, fruits. Fair cover-nesting.

Flowers:Showy yellow - white, aromatic

Fruit: Blue-black drupe clusters- autumn

Ecosystem:Mesic (Moist) Oak Forest, Maple Basswood Forest, White Pine Hardwood Forest, Lowland Hardwood Forest

Other:Unique horizontally layered branches, handsome
