White OAK
(Quercus alba)

White oak is a slow growing large tree with brown and red color in the fall, and has round to wide spreading crown. A mature tree can reach heights of 50-80 feet. It is fairly tolerant of a range of soil conditions and fairly drought tolerant. When established perfoms best in deep, moist, well drained, slightly acid soil.

Wildlife Food & Cover: Excellent food-acorn, insects, browse, buds. Excellent cover-nesting, perching, escape, dens, cavities.

Flowers: Male flowers appear in slender calkins May and early June

Fruit: Acorns - late summer

Ecosystem: Oak Savanna, Dry Oak Forest, White Pine Hardwood Forest, Lowland Hardwood Forest

Other: Good resistance to Oak Wilt
